One of my favorite Christmas traditions is the Advent Calendar. Our family added this tradition a few years ago and it has added a really meaningful touch to our Christmas festivities. The idea is to countdown the days until Christmas Day, in anticipation for Jesus’ birthday!
This year, I created these chalkboard-inspired tags for our advent calendar. And I am giving it to all of you to use as well! I have seen some seriously creative ideas for DIY advent calendars on Pinterest, and if you’re up for the challenge, I definitely suggest you print these out and then go search for a creative way to use them. If you’re like me this year, and just need a quick and easy idea, this is what I did: Print out the tags on card stock. Cut along the guides. Punch a hole in each tag. Write an activity or a scripture on the back of each tag. Use twine to hang on the Christmas tree. That’s it! So easy and minimal effort and supplies were used! Each day we will remove a tag to see what the activity is!
You could also glue the tags to paper sacks or envelopes and hang on the tree or use clothes pins to pin to string and use it as a garland on your fireplace. You can put small prizes or candy in the sacks as well. The possibilities are endless! If you are needing ideas for activities, Kara-Kae @ The Mom Diggity has a post with an Advent Reading Plan & 100 Activity Ideas for Toddlers! The reading plan is for my favorite children’s bible, The Jesus Storybook Bible and the activities can really be used for all ages, not just toddlers.
